Reflections on Week 2
Worship is something I have had a particular view on for years, this assumption that to worship is in a setting where you are singing worship songs either alone or with others. As I learn more and my eyes are open to the reality of worship, I see that worship is everywhere, good and bad. There are so many forms of worship and things that we can worship even unintentionally creating false idols. I have been fasting from social media for a week now and the Lord has been revealing how I have worshiped and idolized it. One question I can answer with this is “What role has deliberate spiritual practice played in growing your faith” (Shigematsu 29). By now incorporating fasting the Lord has already been revealing many false idols and things I have been worshiping that I never realized. Now I can tackle and get rid of those things and fill those voids with Jesus instead, the one and only thing I should be worshiping. Another thing that I have been digging into is the Sabbath which I never thought of as an important command until very recently. Starting this week, I will be incorporating the Sabbath, and I am excited to see how the Lord uses my surrender of one day a week. I have a hard time surrendering my time because I look at all I must do and already get overwhelmed with my lack of time, that the thought of taking away a day is nerve racking. One thing I have been working to get in my head that my professor mentioned in our discussion board this week is “God can do more with 6 days than we can with 7 days on our own.” (Bauer).
