Dealing With Assumptions

We all have made assumptions about one another at one time or another no matter what that may be. Assumptions are something that we all just kind of do even unknowingly at times but they can be hurtful. Growing up a Christian and being very open about the fact that I am has lead to assumptions being made about me. ”Oh she must be judgmental because she’s a Christian“ “Are you sure you should say or do that I thought you were a Christian“ “We’ll you must hate me because i’m this way and Christian’s don’t believe in that”. Those are just a few examples of things that i’ve been told or heard someone say about or to me. These things can be hurtful to me because my #1 priority and goal is to simply love everyone and I hope that they can feel that from me and know that it’s not my place to judge them. Just because someone has different beliefs than me does not mean I am going to slander them and try to make myself seem like i’m better for any reason. Some people have had negative experiences in churches and with different people of religion and sometimes that can lead to those experiences tainting future experiences with people of the same beliefs. It hurts my heart when people think I am going to talk to them in such harsh ways because I personally believe that I can have a conversation with someone make my beliefs known and have them understand that but have them know that I still love them even if we have opposing beliefs. The main thing I wanted to share with this post is that assumptions can be harmful and trying to have an open mind to how people are different no matter their background or beliefs is important. Everyone even if they have the same beliefs on everything is going to be different. My main goal always is to love the people around me and that’s it when people assume that I love them any less because of their beliefs or views it hurts because that’s never the case. Anyways assumptions can be hard not just in this case but in many other ways and sometimes all you can do is continue to love the people around you and hope that they can see how you truly are!
